Chainmaille jewelry making kit for a heavy Graduated Byzantine Necklace up to 20  inches long in sterling, Argentium, silver-filled, yellow gold-filled, rose gold-filled, bronze or copper.

This lovely, tapering necklace is made with heavy 12g rings in the front, narrowing smoothly to 18g in the back. Many ring sizes are required to effect this smooth taper. Handling the stiff 12g rings that make up the front portion of this necklace is challenging so we recommend this bold version for chainmakers with strong hands who rarely grip the rings hard enough to dent them. Until then, the less taxing delicate version is the better choice.

Please note that the delicate and bold versions of this necklace are constructed differently, so the instructions are not interchangeable. If you've made one, you'll still need instructions for the other, rather than just the ringset.

The ringpack makes a necklace up to 20 inches long. Add 18g byzantine to the ends if you'd like to make the necklace longer. (See below.)

Outstanding!

Thank you so very much for this kit! The precise placement of the varying sized rings must have taken quite some time to figure out and I am so grateful you took the time to lay out the instructions so clearly. This piece is certainly BOLD and exactly my style:) I will be getting the Delicate one as well for the rare times I want to be subtle:):)I also agree with Amy from Minn., I also like it a bit longer and added another inch. It made a big difference. I plan to made the delicate a bit shorter and wear them together and that should really make one heck of a statement!

Absolutely impressive!

I wore mine for the first time yesterday, and got a lot of compliments on it. People were amazed I'd made it myself. It really turned heads. I've done the heavy Jens Pind's a couple times, but this one really did tire my hands like nothing else. Had to do it over two evenings. I dipped my tools in Tool Magic for the bigger rings so as not to damage the center of the necklace (something I rarely do), and was very pleased how well that worked. Also, I'd recommend getting a longer kit than you expect. This necklace is so heavy it really looked different at the 18 length I wear thin chains at. I was glad I had enough rings in my backstock to extend it to about 21. It looks much better longer

This necklace is simply spectacular!

The heavy rings in the front were somewhat difficult to close, but other than that, the necklace was not hard to make at all. It has surpassed my expectations and it is just drop-dead gorgeous. Unlike the other two reviewers, however, I made the necklace shorter so I could wear it just at the neckline. I wore it for the first time today and have already gotten an order!

Superb!

I have been longing for both Graduated Byzantine patterns since I first saw them in 2005, around the time of my first order with Urban Maille. But, Life happened, as it does, and chainmaille went on the back burner for a long while. I’ve recently gotten back into it, still LOVE it, and decided I was going to finally get these! I’m so glad! I have seen some copycat patterns out there, but if you know what you’re looking at, you can tell there’s no real competition in the attention to detail with UM’s patterns. Thank you for being a steady presence in the online chainmaille world! -Heather

Argentium Version Just LOVELY!

The large rings made this kit work up very quickly (compared to the delicate version). I found the center rings hard on my hands, but after a 30-minute break, I was ready to continue! I get so many compliments. The Argentium version just GLOWS! Do this kit ... you won't be sorry!

A Bold dream

First, I'd like to say that this kit shipped out way sooner than the schedule said. I was very pleased. I had the necklace done in a few hours. I didn't have any trouble with the larger gauge rings. I actually had more trouble with the smaller sizes at the transition points. Just be patient and the ring will eventually slip in the slot. Unlike other reviewers, I actually like the necklace shorter and only made it 16 inches. This version is very substantial and was much heavier than I thought it would be. However, I liked this kit better than the delicate version. The size differences between the rings in this kit are much more noticeable which I thought made the necklace more stunning.

not really tricky, works up quickly

If you know how to do Byzantine, this is not a bit more difficult, as the instructions are crystal clear, and it is fast to make, too. Take the warning elsewhere on this website that the thickest gauges are a bit tough to work; however, you only have to do those for a small portion , and the effort is abundantly rewarded. The word Bold should be taken seriously, because it is bold ... and really worth it. I would love to try this in Argentium, which should be a little easier to handle in the lower gauges.

Stunning

First of all I would like to say that this kit arrived much sooner than I thought it would...with the holiday schedule making everything run behind it shipped a day after I ordered it. I also purchased the Lindstrom Rx ChainNose Pliers at the same time...I did not have any problems opening/closing the big rings. The necklace is simply beautiful and the ear wires was a nice treat. Great job with packing and directions!!! Now it's time to move to the delicate necklace. I agree with Mary, wearing them together will make a statement.
