Half Persian 4-in-1 is traditionally considered to be among the most difficult of all weaves, not because it's hard to weave but because starting it is so awkward and difficult that people often give up in frustration and resort to using starter pieces made for them and never learning at all. Although the first tutorial I ever wrote (and the one that sparked Urban Maille's beginnings) was for this weave, we were in business more than five years before this kit was available because I clung stubbornly to the idea that it didn’t need to be so difficult and vowed not to teach it until I could make it fun. So now, five years later, I’ve devised a start method so easy a caveman could do it. This gorgeous 14g sterling or Argentium and copper bracelet is the project used to learn the weave. The style is unisex and the weight of the chain makes a woman's wrist look impossibly delicate but every man who sees it will try to talk her out of it. This weave in this weight is the chain most universally coveted by men.

For those of you who are up for a real challenge, this kit comes with an optional expansion pack to take you from learning the weave to mastering it. The Half Persian 4-in-1 Serpentine Necklace is the project we use to teach you to join this weave into a continuous length of chain. This is a chainwork challenge as daunting as any you're ever likely to encounter but the detailed photo illustrated instructions eliminate the confusion, reducing this challenge to a perfectly clear and understandable 3 step process that makes sense.

The Serpentine Necklace is a continuous length of chain without a clasp, so it must be made long enough to fit over the head. The expansion packs include enough rings to make 34" of chain. Although the chain can be made flat, if you click the photo on the right below, you'll see just a few of the many possible variations. This necklace changes its appearance in subtle ways throughout the day as the coils shift and move, ever complimentary to the person wearing it. It makes for one of the most continually interesting necklaces you'll ever make.

The Serpentine Necklace expansion pack comes in a choice of six varieties; sterling silver, copper, Argentium sterling, sterling and copper, Argentium and copper and palladium sterling. Palladium sterling is an alloy of 92.5% silver, 3% palladium and 4.5% copper. Palladium is a member of the platinum family. Palladium sterling is harder, stronger and (obviously) more valuable than traditional sterling and although we assume it will tarnish eventually, it happens so slowly we can't report on it. The palladium sterling we've exposed to air here for a full year has yet to tarnish to any measurable degree.

    Kit includes:

  • One spiral wire bound instruction book
  • One sterling lozenge clasp, large
  • 1.07 troy ounces sterling or argentium
and .91 troy ounces copper rings
  • The expansion pack of your choice (optional)
  • Two clever little tools
  • A special wee gift from us,
  • All packaged in beautiful reusable tins.
  • Bracelet Length: up to 9.5"
  • Total Sterling Weight: 1.07ozt
  • Total Copper Weight: .91ozt
  • Difficulty Level: Challenging
  • Experience Required: Familiarity w/Chainwork

Note: Remember this weave when it's time to make gifts for the men in your life.
Men always love Half Persian 4-in-1.

Great Weave!! March 25, 2010
Reviewer: Barbara Barnes from Palm Bay, FL United States
Found the weave difficult to start with, after a few inches, it was okay.  Using two different  (copper, sterling) made it easier to understand.  Of course Urban Maille's rings are the best! Would definitely recommend!

Beautiful Product January 22, 2010
Reviewer: m@ from south FL, United States
I essentially purchased an equivalent amount of copper and argentium rings (based on my wrist size) so I could utilize the smaller lozenge clasp (opposed to the larger one included in the kit). For redundancy, I actually ordered two clasps, and set them facing opposite and backwards to each other.  The bracelet looks and feels great; and the quality of the rings is second to none.  I will be purchasing more from UM in the future for sure; cheers!

Well worth buying this kit January 14, 2010

I love the look of this weave, and printed instructions for it from the internet. There are a LOT out there.  And I managed to get past the first rings to do the weave.  But then I'd pick it up after a day and be lost again.  The directions in this kit make the weave a snap.  I could forget about figuring it out, struggling to remember and translate those internet photos, and spend my efforts on closing those rings perfectly, thereby entering the Zen zone of chain maille weaving.  And it is lovely when completed.  I'm so grateful to have such clear instructions for this gorgeous weave.

So simple December 29, 2009
Reviewer: Sonda from OR, United States
I live in a small rural town so if I want to learn something new I have to teach myself, therefore I order kits.  I had heard how difficult this weave was but the bracelet looked so beautiful I wanted to learn it.  I sat down and read the instructions, started the chain with the clip and finished the bracelet in less than 2 hours.  Once you remember where to insert what ring, and the instructions are clear on this, it is a very simple weave in my opinion. If it truly is a difficult weave to start, it is certainly simplified by this clip method.  The rings are great quality and I am extremely please with this first effort.  Wish Urban Maille sold colored rings as I would like to do this in a variety of two-tone colors.  I will definitely order more kits from Urban Maille.
