Specs:

Byzantine is one of the most beautiful chain weaves in the world and the most complex of the beginner weaves. It looks so ornate that it never fails to impress but it's really quite easy to learn. It's among the most versatile of all chain weaves, lending itself to countless variations. The 16 gauge rings included are the most perfect size for this weave, resulting in a densely woven and luxuriously weighty chain.

Note: This kit includes instructions in the Notebook Project format. You'll also need the Apprentice Guide, which is available as a free download or you can order it in the Notebook Project format.

  • Bracelet Length: up to 9.5"
  • Total Sterling Weight: 1.4ozt
  • Difficulty Level: Slightly Less Easy
  • Experience Required: None

Note: Byzantine is among the most useful of all chain weaves due to its almost infinite capacity for variation. It's the only weave that's required knowledge for every Apprentice Project Kit we offer.

Best Seller!!! July 21, 2010
Reviewer: Pepper Mentz from Kirtland, NM United States
The first experience I had working with chain maille was through the Byzantine kit I ordered years ago from Urban Maille.  I blogged...before blogging was even a word...on a forum...about my entire step by step process.  Following the well written instructions and using the tools was one of the exciting things I grew to love,  but after many years of doing chain maille, I will have to say the best part of working in chain maille designs is to be working with the highest quality rings.  Aislyn and Gary of Urban Maille have the best and I will continue to be their customer for many years to come.  Thank you for the FIVE STAR quality product and service.

Byzantine bracelet kit! May 1, 2010
Reviewer: Lynn Hiersche from Gladstone, OR United States
OMG this kit is awesome.  I just received mine the other day and just began working with it.  It's going together SO easy.  The instructions are fabulous, easy to understand and beautiful.  The rings themselves are STUNNING; I can't stop playing with them! :D

I can't wait until my bracelet is done.  I think I'm in love with weaving rings!  Thanks Urban Maille!

GREAT KIT March 13, 2009
Reviewer: Barbara Barnes from Palm Bay, FL United States
The bracelet is beautiful,  the directions were easy to follow,  the jump rings were impeccable.  I had some jump rings left over,  just made earrings to match with the Bali earring set you sent me (free gift).  Hightly recommended.   My husband just ordered the delicate graduated byzantine necklact kit for me - can't wait to get it!!!!

fun and easy kit January 30, 2009
Reviewer: Jessica S from Sicklerville, NJ United States
After reading the reviews and wishing to own a byzantine chain (and not wanting to pay the high prices) I decided to give the kit a try.  It was so much fun, and incredibly easy!  I have not done wire work in the past, but that was not a problem in this case.  The bracelet is gorgeous, and I had enough extra to make a pair of matching earrings.  I was able to make the bracelet in under 1.5 hours (and that was with several interruptions).  Recommend this kit to anyone, have already ordered more rings!

Byzantine Bracelet January 25, 2009
Reviewer: Linda Shiver from Grayson, GA United States
This was my first project in chain and it turned out absolutely beautiful.  The instructions are excellent.  The sterling rings are so beautiful and have spoiled me for anything else. I made the bracelet in one evening.  The next evening I made the byzantine watch which I had also purchased. I definitely plan on trying the other weaves.

SS = Sterling Silver
CP = Copper
AG = Argentium
PDS = Palladium Sterling
PTS = Platinum Sterling

A strike through like this CP means that the weave/ring size combination doesn't work in copper. Look for a neighboring ring size to be recommended for copper, instead.
